The City and County of Broomfield is searching for a strategic, progressive, experienced emergency coordinator professional to join our team as a Broomfield Emergency Response Coordinator.
The Emergency Response Coordinator performs professional level emergency management work including assisting with the development, coordination, and implementation of emergency plans and operating procedures, development of educational and community outreach programs, response and recovery coordination services to the City and County of Broomfield and the community to build resiliency and be better prepared to respond to and recover from emergency events. The Coordinator develops plans and conducts emergency management exercises and training classes and assists in the development of resource management procedures.
Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
Be actively present and provide proactive support during an emergency operation and must be able to respond to emergency calls.
Partners with the community and the organization to improve emergency preparedness, build resiliency and develop key relationships in anticipation of future emergency events.
Assists with developing and coordinating processes and organization structure to sustain the community and the organization in the aftermath of emergency events.
Assists to actively engage departments, partner agencies, and community-based groups through discussion, integrated planning and training exercises and scenarios addressing prevention, protection, mitigation, response, preparedness and recovery.
Assists in updating the City and County of Broomfield’s emergency operations plan, hazard mitigation plan, disaster recovery plan and others; functionally tests the plans through regularly scheduled drills and exercises.
Coordinates with all City and County departments and private/public organizations that have operational roles in emergency situations for the purpose of developing a multi-agency approach to emergency management planning. Gathers, analyzes and distributes information concerning natural and man-made emergencies/disasters, and coordinates multiple agencies during emergencies and/or training exercises and scenarios.
Assists in the development and maintenance of a three year training exercise plan. Plans, develops, coordinates and conducts emergency management training and meetings for all levels of City and County staff and partner organizations, neighboring jurisdictions and North Metro Fire and Rescue District. Develops programs concerning emergency response actions and resiliency for residents and businesses.
Acts as a liaison with other emergency management coordinators from federal, state and local governments.
Develops a variety of partnerships to be more prepared for the stresses and shocks that a community experiences in response to a natural or human caused hazard or emergency.
Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards coworkers, partners, and community members promoting teamwork, proactive, open communication and effective customer service.
Acts with the community in mind, responds to requests promptly and provides effective services or solutions for customers.
Consistently exercises appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Training/Education – Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Emergency Management or closely related field. Training or certificates in the following areas are preferred: National Incident Management System (NIMS) 700 and 800 and Incident Command training/certification ICS 100-300, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Professional Development Series, Training in Community Risk Assessment, Emergency Preparedness training, etc.
Experience – Three years of professional experience in emergency preparedness and response programming. Public sector emergency preparedness and response planning and/or first responder experience preferred.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.

Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the environment is usually quiet however can be moderate to loud in the event of an emergency situation. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday, however may require some evening and weekend hours as needed and may be performed in City/County work locations and/or, from at-home or other approved remote work locations as well as in the field in an emergency situation. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
