Position Description

The social worker collaborates with our attorneys and investigators to provide the best defense for our clients. Primary responsibilities include managing records requests for attorneys; maintaining familiarity with programs within the Bureau of Prisons and working with local detention facilities, pretrial services, probation, and community-based treatment providers; developing relationships with individuals in various resource agencies; building a comprehensive resource database to address client treatment/rehabilitative needs (e.g. available substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, housing options, and employment opportunities for our clients); assisting attorneys/investigators with connecting clients to community-based support systems; providing internal panel training on relevant topics; and performing other duties as assigned. Qualification

Applicants must have 1) a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university; 2) three years of general office experience; and 3) five years of relevant specialized experience, such as knowledge of community-based rehabilitation programs, assessing the needs of clients and referring them to programs that best address those needs, creating effective vision boards for future development, conducting interoffice trainings, collecting and analyzing various types of records, or using computer and demonstrative media tools (e.g. Trial Director, PowerPoint, and CaseMap).
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible to work in the United States. Employment is subject to a satisfactory background investigation, including an FBI name and fingerprint check and an IRS tax check.

Benefits

This is an “Excepted Appointment” full-time position with federal benefits and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications within the range of JSP Grade 13 ($104,038 – $135,247) and JSP Grade 14 ($122,941 – $159,823). Benefits include health and life insurance, retirement, and the Thrift Savings Plan. Salary is payable only by direct deposit.
