Thank you* The City of Aurora seeks to hire an ambitious Crime and Data Analyst for a position within the Aurora Police Department. The position requires an analyst who has a fondness for working with police related data and knowledge of processes and procedures used to obtain data, conduct analysis and compile statistics. The perfect candidate maintains a well-rounded collection of tactical and investigative analytic techniques, is resourceful in their utilization, and desires further professional development. The selected candidate will work in an environment of high demand, performing crime analysis duties and developing crime analysis products in support of the Aurora Police Department and its Crime Analysis Unit. This is a full-time, benefited position averaging 40 hours a week, with budgeted starting salary between $61,106 – $76,383 annually depending on experience, education and training over the minimum qualifications. The Aurora Police Department
Aurora Police Department will continually evolve as an innovative agency. Within the Aurora Police Department there are four separate divisions: Operations; Metro; Professional Accountability; and Business Services and employs over 800 Civil Service and Career Service employees whose mission is Partnering with Our Community to Make Aurora Safer Every Day.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify and collect crime data factors using a variety of police reports to track crime, identify patterns, forecast trends, and report actionable findings that inform resource deployment.
Query law enforcement programs such as police records management systems, NCIC/CCIC, Accurint, Lumen, LinX, as well as other regional and national criminal justice databases.
Organize, analyze and interpret police data and information using a variety of tactical and investigative analytical techniques and statistical methods.
Conduct research and analysis on subjects’ histories, associates, addresses, vehicles, digital data such as cell phones, and social media presence via commonly used analytical software and open source intelligence applications.
Collect, compile, summarize and present materials related to offense reports, arrest reports and investigative and intelligence information that promotes lead generation.
Respond to inter and intradepartmental ad hoc requests for police data; create and disseminate findings that inform police personnel and executives, city council, citizens and other decision makers.
Create and maintain databases to obtain custom data sets in response to requests for data, analysis and statistics for administrative or investigative level use.
Write queries to extract, validate and clean data to develop reports, charts and graphs by utilizing programs such ACCESS, SQL and SSRS or comparable relational database programs.
Use EXCEL macros or other editing techniques on crime data to analyze, format, simplify, and present findings.
Utilize ArcMAP/ArcPRO to prepare a variety of map products as well as to conduct geospatial analysis on crime related data.
Prepare PowerPoint presentations, maps, graphs, charts, tables and other illustrative devices that organize and simplify information to help further investigations or criminal prosecutions.
Participate in the maintenance of data integrity; validate results, identify issues and use appropriate strategies to resolve discrepancies or report issues.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Statistics, Mathematics; or a related field with courses in crime analysis, research methods and statistics.
Two (2) years of professional experience performing research by way of analyzing data, producing statistics and creating products of findings and/or recommendations.
Technical skills and experience related to the use of data, relational databases, software and technical troubleshooting .
Three (3) years of experience as a crime researcher or crime analyst working with data related to public safety (law enforcement, court or corrections) or comparable.
Experience conducting tactical or investigative analysis and compiling statistics.
Experience using ACCESS, SQL or SSRS to design and build relational database queries.
Familiarity with commonly used law enforcement or public safety software, applications and databases.
Aptitude of technical skills and technical analysis to troubleshoot technological equipment.
Knowledge of analytical skills and techniques used for crime analysis or public safety functions.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and relational databases.
Knowledge of mapping software, intelligence applications and open source sites used to identify pertinent information and conduct analysis.
Able to establish and maintain working relationships with others in law enforcement and intelligence communities, City of Aurora employees and its citizens.
Willing and able to proactively and independently learn new software, databases, and analytical techniques.
Able to maintain confidentiality.
Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; accurately analyze data; and make clear, concise and actionable presentations or graphics.
Able to uphold inter and intradepartmental practices, standards and policies.
Skilled using strategies of organization, multitasking and prioritization to quickly assess, analyze and contend with a variety of situations.
Skilled in conducting analysis, compiling statistics and presenting findings.
Skilled in the use of personal computers; and law enforcement related databases, software programs and applications.
Applies critical thinking skills, maintains attention to detail and is adaptive when new information is presented.
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Position includes sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time.
Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; requires the able to lift 10 pounds.
Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate office equipment.
Vision for reading, recording, and interpreting information.
Frequent verbal, written and hearing used to communicate with others.
Duties may be performed in a fast-paced, demanding environment with short deadlines.
Position may require the use of personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) during the course of employment.
