Nature of Work
The City of Northglenn Police Department is currently accepting applications for non-certified Police Officers to attend the Police Academy.
Work is scheduled on a rotating shift basis (Days, Swings, and Graveyards), and includes holidays and overtime.
Salary $29.33/hour ($61,000/year), plus excellent benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities
Officers on patrol perform a variety of essential activities and services that are both proactive and reactive in nature. Some of these include but are not limited to: enforcing traffic and criminal laws, apprehending criminals, maintaining order, answering calls for service, conducting investigations and educating the public regarding public safety issues and crime prevention. Officers prepare written reports and field notes of investigations and patrol activities, apprehend criminals and testify in court. Work requires extensive contact with outside agencies, the judicial system and the general public.
Education and Experience
Associates Degree and higher desired, however, not required. No previous experience is required for this position, however you must meet all federal and state requirements to be a peace officer through Colorado P.O.S.T. (Police Officer and Standards Training). You can go to https://www.colorado.gov/post/basic-certification to see the minimum requirements for P.O.S.T. and a list/description of anything thing that would be an automatic disqualifier from becoming P.O.S.T. certified. Upon hire you will be required to attend and successfully complete the Colorado P.O.S.T. academy and state certification test for continued employment. Non-United States Citizens may apply but must meet all requirements of State and Federal law for employment in the United States, the State of Colorado, and the City of Northglenn. To see the requirements to obtain a Colorado P.O.S.T. certification as a Non-United States Citizen, go to https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/post/non-united-states-citizens Current academy graduates – If you have attended an approved Colorado Peace Officer academy and are Colorado P.O.S.T. certified, but have not been hired as a police officer, you may apply. As such, you may apply but will be required to successfully complete a P.O.S.T. approved academy and state certification test as part of your hire conditions. Pension Plan
The City of Northglenn does not participate in Social Security. Instead, there is a defined contribution pension plan.
The City contributes 8% of salary for all regular full-time employees with less than five (5) years of service; 9% after 5 years of service and 10% after 10 or more years of service; employees contribute 12% of their salary.
Police Officer vesting schedule: 40% at 4 years of service; increases by 20% each year thereafter until fully vested at 7 years of service.
General Leave
The City provides General Leave, which may be used for vacation, sick leave and personal emergencies. A first year officer accrues 240 hours of general leave annually. Holiday time is included in the General Leave hours accrual for shift employees. The City also provides 16 hours of personal leave each year for regular full-time employees.

The City of Northglenn provides a confidential counseling service through Mines and Associates. Employees and their family members are eligible for up to eight (8) counseling sessions per year/per incident.

Bilingual Pay: Employees who demonstrate a conversationally fluent level of speaking Spanish (tested) and who use these skills during frequent interactions providing customer service are compensated with an annual stipened paid in full at the beginning of each year.
Uniform: The department supplies the officer’s uniform, boots, vest and equipment to include leather gear, outerwear, handcuffs, and flashlights. Applicants must provide their own Glock 17 handgun. The department, on a periodic schedule, replaces uniforms and equipment based on the “fair wear and tear” policy. All officers receive a monthly cleaning allowance of $32.00. Officers in a plainclothes assignment receive a yearly allowance to purchase clothes.
