SB Mediation Center, Parenting Time Supervision Specialist, 1099.
SB Mediation Center supports children and families involved with a children’s welfare system, domestic relations court (divorce). We build resilient children & families by providing safe visits, observations, reports of observations.
The Parenting Time Supervision Specialist is responsible for providing a safe, parent-child visit environment. The primary purpose of this role is to allow room for parenting time to assist children and their families in maintaining or re-establishing healthy and safe relationships for the child. This position is 1099, hourly, located in the community or the parents’ home. The children are our clients!
Since we are in the business of safety for our clients, we require fully vaccinated supervisors and masked supervisors every visit. If you are unable to do this, we can not work together.
Essential Duties & Functions (With or Without Accommodation):
Supervise parent-child visits/exchanges at the locations as per our agreements and case-specific guidelines.
Monitor the visitation for a safe environment and focus full attention on the visit.
Enforce rules and guidelines when necessary.
Communicate in a firm but respectful manner with all clients.
Observe and document the interaction between children and their parents and intervene if necessary, as per our agreements.
Ensure records are maintained in compliance with our procedures.
Complete all paperwork promptly and carefully, keeping records confidential.
Complete and submit computer documentation on due dates.
Greet custodial and non-custodial parents.
Report immediate concerns or unusual situations to supervisor.
Testify if required at Family/Juvenile Court.
Work with families in an empathic, professional, and objective manner.
Pay for and complete the SVN 24-hour certificate training.
Assesses, reports, and documents suspected abuse or neglect to Child Protective Services and local law enforcement agencies.
Access case files regularly, read and understand guidelines and case-specific rules.
Any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills (with or without accommodation):
Understanding of family systems.
Understanding of child and adolescent development and behavior.
A working knowledge of the impact of domestic violence, sexual abuse, neglect, and substance abuse on families and children.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Skill in using business software such as email, MS Office applications, Adobe, smartphones, office equipment.
The ability to perceptively observe child-parent interactions is essential.
Must be able to exercise authority and be assertive when needed.
Detail-oriented with well-developed problem-solving abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational, time management, project management, and multitasking skills.
Flexibility and ability to respond to changing priorities.
Must be reliable and punctual.
Displays cultural sensitivity and demonstrates the ability to form constructive and collaborative working relationships with others from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Ability to communicate in a culturally inclusive manner and be open to other people’s differences.
Reliable car and computer to draft reports and use a calendar in a smartphone.
Other requirements:
Must be able to walk, run, climb, stoop, kneel, sit, stand, reach, stretch, bend, squat.
Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
Must remain calm, non-defensive, and supportive during stressful, potential crisis, and crises.
Must work in a highly stressful environment where there are considerable mental and emotional demands. The types of situations encountered, mainly when children and adults are involved, cause emotional stress.
Must be available to work a varied schedule to include days, evenings, and weekends.
Must be able to type adequately to complete professional reports from the visits.
Must be physically able to keep up with children while monitoring visitation and accompanying documentation.
Must be able to remain flexible and reprioritize according to the changing demands of the day.
Must be in a professional manner in all situations.
Minimum Educational and Certification Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required; two years behavioral health work experience; or combination of education and experience.
Experience working with children and families preferred.
